“I Spy” consists of six small, empty picture frames mounted on stakes in the ground. It debuted at the Everywhen Mojave event in October 2021. I installed it after nearby artists had built their works because its purpose was to draw attention to the other artwork. I positioned each frame to center on a nearby piece, or a section of it, or a geographical feature. The idea was to guide people’s attention to particular views they might otherwise overlook. At an art festival filled with things to look at, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and stop noticing things. Looking through the frames gets people to stop for a moment and enjoy a single view.
This piece was also installed at Element 11 in Utah in June 2023.
